Verstappen Takes Victory in Monaco
Hartley Penalized for Pit Lane Speeding
The 2018 Monaco Grand Prix, formally known as the Formula 1 Grand Prix de Monaco 2018, was held on May 27, 2018, and saw Red Bull's Max Verstappen emerge victorious.
Verstappen started the race from third position but managed to overtake both Ferrari drivers, Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Räikkönen, in the early stages. He then held on to his lead for the remainder of the race, despite a late challenge from Vettel.
Vettel finished second, followed by Räikkönen in third. Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
The race was also notable for a five-second time penalty handed to Toro Rosso's Brendon Hartley for speeding in the pit lane. This dropped Hartley from 11th to 13th place in the final standings.
Verstappen's victory in Monaco was his second of the 2018 season and moved him into the lead of the Drivers' Championship standings. It was also Red Bull's first win in Monaco since 2013.
