Algérie, Maroc, Tunisie et Cameroun en lice
La 26e édition de la Coupe d'Afrique des Nations (CAN) de handball masculin se déroulera du 17 au 27 janvier 2024 au Caire, en Égypte. Le tournoi servira également de qualification pour les Jeux olympiques d'été de 2024 à Paris, en France, et pour les Championnats du monde de handball masculin de 2025.
Les 16 équipes participantes ont été réparties en quatre groupes. Voici la composition des groupes :
- Groupe A : Égypte, Algérie, Guinée, Gabon
- Groupe B : Tunisie, Maroc, Cap-Vert, RD Congo
- Groupe C : Cameroun, Angola, Nigeria, Côte d'Ivoire
- Groupe D : Sénégal, Kenya, Libye, Zambie
Les deux premières équipes de chaque groupe se qualifieront pour les quarts de finale. Le vainqueur de la CAN se qualifiera automatiquement pour les Jeux olympiques de 2024 et les cinq meilleures équipes se qualifieront pour les Championnats du monde de 2025.
La Tunisie, l'Égypte et l'Algérie sont les nations les plus titrées de la CAN de handball masculin, avec respectivement 10, 9 et 7 titres. Les Lions de l'Atlas du Maroc espèrent créer la surprise et décrocher leur premier sacre continental.
