STIKO empfiehlt Prophylaxe mit Nirsevimab zum Schutz vor RS-Virus-Erkrankungen bei Säuglingen
Lange erwartete Empfehlung der Ständigen Impfkommission
Die Ständige Impfkommission (STIKO) hat eine neue Empfehlung zur spezifischen Prophylaxe mit Nirsevimab zum Schutz vor schweren RS-Virus-Erkrankungen bei Säuglingen herausgegeben.
Jährlich erkranken in Deutschland nach Angaben des Robert Koch-Instituts (RKI) etwa 25.000 Säuglinge an einer RSV-Infektion. Die Infektion kann zu schweren Atemwegserkrankungen wie Bronchitis oder Lungenentzündung führen. Insbesondere Frühgeborene und Säuglinge mit Vorerkrankungen sind gefährdet.
Die STIKO empfiehlt nun für alle Neugeborenen und Säuglinge eine einmalige intramuskuläre Injektion mit Nirsevimab in den ersten Lebensmonaten. Nirsevimab ist ein monoklonaler Antikörper, der die Infektion mit dem RS-Virus blockiert und so schwere Erkrankungen verhindern soll.
Die Empfehlung basiert auf klinischen Studien, die eine hohe Wirksamkeit von Nirsevimab bei der Vorbeugung schwerer RS-Virus-Erkrankungen nachgewiesen haben. Die STIKO erwartet, dass die Impfung einen erheblichen Beitrag zur Reduzierung der Zahl der RSV-assoziierten Krankenhausaufenthalte und Todesfälle bei Säuglingen leisten wird.
