RSV-Impfung für Neugeborene empfohlen
Neue STIKO-Empfehlung zum Schutz vor schweren Atemwegsinfektionen
Die Ständige Impfkommission (STIKO) empfiehlt künftig eine Prophylaxe zum Schutz aller Neugeborenen und Säuglinge vor schweren Atemwegsinfektionen, die durch das Respiratorische Synzytial-Virus (RSV) verursacht werden. Dies ist das erste Mal, dass die STIKO eine passive Immunisierung für alle Neugeborenen in Deutschland empfiehlt.
Das RS-Virus führt jedes Jahr zu zahlreichen Erkrankungen, insbesondere bei Säuglingen und Kleinkindern. In schweren Fällen kann es zu Lungenentzündungen, Bronchitis und Krankenhausaufenthalten kommen.
Die empfohlene Prophylaxe soll durch die Gabe eines monoklonalen Antikörpers erfolgen, der das RS-Virus neutralisiert und das Immunsystem unterstützt. Die Impfung wird voraussichtlich spätestens im Sommer 2024 in den Impfkalender aufgenommen.
